Andrew AnglesHi, I am Andrew Angles, I have been married to Gill for nearly 11 years and have 2 children, Ashley 7 and Archie 4. My fun hobbies used to be Scuba diving, when based in the Caribbean and Sky Diving whilst living out of Cape Canaveral in Florida, when I worked for Carnival Cruise Lines. These activities did not require much energy as gravity did most of the work for me. I have run my own training company for the Hospitality Industry for the last 6 years. In preparation for the 3 Peaks I have lost nearly 1 ½ stone and aim to lose another. My charity is the Runcorn, Frodsham & District Mencap Monday Group. It was set up about 40 years ago by a group of parents and continues to provide education, leisure and recreational services for children and adults with a learning disability. They provide support and respite for carers and families; offer information in line with latest policy and campaign on issues relating to Learning Disabilities. On Monday mornings they have a drop-in group to enable adults with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible, offering basic life skills, encouraging social skills through chat, snooker, table tennis, craft work etc. They would like to offer their members the opportunity to learn new skills and to practise these skills within a supportive environment. This year they are concentrating on the whole body 'well-being': keeping fit (Exercise to music/ bowling/basketball/etc.) Healthy eating/ manicure /chiropody / hair care etc and basic literacy skills/computer skills to enable planning of menus, shopping, cooking so they can repeat the menu at home. The sessions would enable members to learn about healthy eating and directly improve and build up simple cooking skills. From this confidence, social skills would also be enhanced with volunteers enabling the members to plan simple meals, go shopping, use money, follow simple recipes, prepare and cook food. Funding would enable them to provide a variety of kitchen equipment and they would hope to loan some of the equipment to the members so that they could follow the simple recipes at home. It has been identified that current recipe books are not fully accessible by the members with learning difficulties, therefore, they require a computer, printer/copier and software to allow reproduction of recipes in a format that the members can understand. A computer would also allow members the opportunity of using information technology in a safe environment with appropriate support. The money raised is vital as the Monday Group survives on volunteers and donations alone. Thank you all for taking the time to read my biog and learning about my charity. To donate, please follow the link…. It is very much appreciated.
